Lolaia Waterfall

24 Augusztus 2019

Pietrele Chalet (1480m) – Lolaia waterfall – Cârnic
Time: 1,5 h
Distance: 5 km
Level difference: -500 m
Difficulty: easy to medium hike

All that was left for Sunday was: the descent from the mountain and the journey home.

We packed up in the morning and after breakfast we headed downstairs with our big backpacks. We descended the blue lane from the Pietrele chalet all the way to the cars, luckily the sun was shining now and the backpacks were lighter than during the climb.

Along the way, we stopped to admire the Lolaia Waterfall.

A Lolaia Waterfall is not far from Cârnic, you have to turn off the road marked with a blue bar, at the signboard. The waterfall formed in the Nucșoara Valley, the water rushing from 13-15 m height. When we approached the roar of the water was getting louder and louder. Descending a few steps, we could see the waterfall from the front.

The Retezat Mountains are one of the most beautiful mountains in Romania.

USEFULL INFO: If you haven’t taken a high mountain hike yet, I can recommend this mountain for a good start. It does not require technical knowledge, but it requires attention. On the hiking trails that end in the mountains, you can experience what it is like to hike not in a wooded landscape, but in rocky seas.

I couldn’t have wished for a better trip.

Arriving at the cars, it seemed too early to go home, so we visited the nearby Băniței Strait, about which you can read about in my next post.
